Learn a little about us!
Ben Garber, A UW-Madison graduate of the School of Music, grew up in Waukesha, Wisconsin and started playing the piano at the age of 6 and continued to take lessons with professors at UW-Milwaukee and later at Carroll College.
Ben attended UW-Madison from 1988 to 1993 and completed his Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance under Howard Karp. During his years at the University of Wisconsin, Ben learned to regulate pianos as a student worker under Joel Jones, and also began teaching piano lessons for the UW-Piano Project with Elizabeth Gutierrez. He then went to graduate school for music at Rice University in Houston, Texas from 2003 to 2006 earning Master’s Degrees in Piano Performance and Piano Technology.
After graduate school, Ben maintained a full studio of private piano students and went to work as a piano technician for the Steinway dealer in Houston, Texas. After the birth of his first daughter in 2002, he decided Madison was the best place to raise a family and continue working in the arts. He began building a new piano studio and worked for Forbes-Meagher Music as a piano technician from 2003 to 2007. When Forbes-Meagher closed, he went to work at Steinway Piano Gallery. He worked there as Sales Associate and Master Technician, all while continuing to grow his piano teaching studio to 65 students.
Ben is the owner of Madison Piano Place, LLC and is fulfilling his dream of running a quality multi-teacher piano teaching studio. He is passionate about helping families learn piano and continue with piano into adulthood.
